BRC-720 is a Bitcoin-based asset standard and protocol used to create and manage non-fungible tokens, with a special focus on generating 3D NFT assets through AI. It plays a role similar to Ethereum’s ERC-721, but within the Bitcoin ecosystem.
The standard was introduced by BitWorld to bring AI tools directly to Bitcoin for on-chain character building and game components. It links an original NFT’s collection data with newly created 3D assets so the pieces stay tied together on-chain
BRC-720 highlights three creation paths: text-to-image, image-to-3D, and text-to-3D. In simple terms, you can describe a model, feed in a 2D picture, or start from text and end up with a 3D object. The approach aims to keep storage needs for 3D models low while still letting creators mint the results on Bitcoin.
By anchoring NFTs to Bitcoin, BRC-720 taps into the network’s broad user base and security profile. It expands NFT activity beyond blockchains that historically dominated the space and encourages projects that prefer Bitcoin’s stability.
The standard is shaped for on-chain games, avatars, social or AI agents, metaverse assets, and other interactive 3D items that benefit from verifiable ownership. These assets can be created by users and traded like other NFTs.
Conceptually, BRC-720 fills a role on Bitcoin that mirrors ERC-721 on Ethereum: a framework for unique digital items rather than interchangeable tokens. The difference is its emphasis on AI-assisted 3D generation within Bitcoin’s environment.
