Solflare

Solflare is a non-custodial digital wallet built for the Solana blockchain. It lets users store, manage, and transact with SOL, the native cryptocurrency of Solana, as well as SPL tokens and Solana-based NFTs. Initially developed under Solana Labs and later by Solrise Group, Ltd., Solflare has grown from a simple staking interface into a full-featured gateway for decentralized finance (DeFi), NFT management, and on-chain activity on Solana.

Origin and development

Solflare launched in July 2020 as a web wallet shortly after Solana's mainnet went live. A browser extension followed, allowing users to interact with decentralized applications directly from their desktop browsers. In 2021, a mobile app for iOS and Android was released, expanding access beyond desktop. The project was incubated under Solana Labs before transitioning to Solrise Group, Ltd., where co-founders including Vidor Gencel and Filip Dragoslavic continue steering its development. Unlike many competing Solana wallets that moved toward multi-chain support, Solflare has maintained a focused commitment to deep Solana integration, positioning itself as the most capable native wallet for that ecosystem.

Platform availability

Solflare is accessible across multiple platforms, making it practical for many users. The web interface at solflare.com offers full wallet functionality from any browser. Dedicated extensions for Chrome and Firefox allow seamless interaction with Solana dApps without switching tabs or apps. Mobile users can download the app from the Apple App Store or Google Play, providing on-the-go access to the same core features as desktop. This cross-platform consistency lets users manage the same wallet across devices using a single seed phrase, with no loss of functionality.

Core features

Asset management and transactions

At its core, Solflare gives users a unified view of their holdings, including SOL balances, SPL tokens, NFTs, staking positions, and transaction history in a single customizable dashboard. Sending and receiving assets happens at Solana's fast speed, with transaction fees usually just fractions of a cent. Users can buy SOL directly within the wallet using debit or credit cards, bank transfers, and payment services like Apple Pay and Google Pay, reducing reliance on external exchanges for onboarding.

Staking

Staking is one of Solflare's key features and was central to the wallet's original purpose. Users can delegate SOL to validators of their choice directly through the wallet, earning network rewards without transferring assets to a third party. Solflare also supports liquid staking through JitoSOL, letting users stake SOL while keeping a liquid token representing their staked position, usable across DeFi protocols. The staking dashboard provides detailed performance data on validators, helping users make informed delegation decisions.

NFT management

Solflare offers a dedicated NFT gallery where users can browse, display, and manage their Solana NFT collections. The wallet supports bulk transfers, letting users send multiple NFTs simultaneously instead of one at a time. Users can set an NFT as their in-wallet profile picture, burn unwanted or suspicious tokens, and interact with Solana NFT marketplaces without leaving the wallet. These features make Solflare a practical tool for active collectors and traders in Solana's NFT ecosystem.

DeFi and dApp connectivity

Through its browser extension and web interface, Solflare connects directly to decentralized exchanges, lending protocols, gaming platforms, and other Solana-based applications. Token swaps happen natively within the wallet, with liquidity aggregated via Jupiter to minimize slippage and get competitive rates. The wallet's dApp browser lets users explore and interact with the broader Solana ecosystem without the friction of transferring assets between separate tools.

Security model

Solflare is a non-custodial wallet, so users retain sole control over their private keys and seed phrases. The wallet includes scam detection that flags known malicious smart contracts before signing a transaction, and transaction simulation previews the expected outcome before confirmation. These software protections address common attack vectors in self-custodial crypto use. For extra security, Solflare supports hardware wallets like Ledger and Keystone, keeping private keys offline while allowing full interaction with the wallet through the software.

Solar Shield hardware wallet

At Solana's Breakpoint 2025 conference, Solflare announced the Solar Shield, its NFC-enabled hardware wallet. The device is battery-free and lets users sign mobile transactions by tapping the card to their phone, combining the convenience of a hot wallet with the key isolation of cold storage. Priced at $49, it is well below competing premium hardware wallets. Signature editions with designs by Solana artists, bundle packages, and personalized options are also available. The Solar Shield has a 25-year warranty and integrates tightly with Solflare's software, including transaction simulation and threat monitoring.

Solflare Card

Solflare offers a payment card that lets users spend USDC directly from their self-custodial wallet. Powered by Mastercard, the card is accepted at over 100 million merchants worldwide. It aims to bring on-chain assets into everyday commerce without routing funds through a centralized custodian. The card works alongside the Solflare wallet interface, where balances and transaction history remain accessible in the same dashboard used for staking and DeFi activity.

Privacy Aggregator

In early 2026, Solflare launched the first native privacy aggregation layer built into a self-custodial Solana wallet. The Privacy Aggregator automatically routes transactions through vetted privacy protocols, applying the same competitive aggregation mechanics used in decentralized exchange routing to transaction-level privacy. The initial feature, Private Send, facilitated by Houdini Swap, lets users transfer funds without creating a visible on-chain link between sender and recipient. Transactions remain transparent within the user's wallet while the public connection between addresses is obscured. The feature is opt-in per transaction, preserving default on-chain transparency for users who prefer it.

Adoption and ecosystem role

By mid-2025, Solflare reported over four million active users and about $8.5 billion in assets tracked on the platform. A partnership with DeFi Dev Corp named Solflare the default wallet across that organization's product stack. A rebranding campaign added about 1.5 million new users within six months. The wallet's MetaMask Snaps integration extended its reach to users from other blockchain ecosystems, onboarding several hundred thousand from EVM-compatible networks. Solflare offers 24/7 live-chat support, distinguishing it from many self-custodial alternatives where support is limited or community-only.
