Anduril Industries is a U.S.-based defense tech company located in Costa Mesa, California. They specialize in autonomous systems, artificial intelligence, and advanced hardware for military and national security uses. Their products include aerial drones, underwater vehicles, counter-drone systems, and the Lattice software platform, which combines sensor data to provide real-time situational awareness to soldiers.
The company aims to improve the defense capabilities of the U.S. and its allies by creating advanced technology without relying on traditional government funding. Instead of waiting for government contracts, Anduril invests in its own research and development first, then sells finished products to the military. This approach creates a commercial-style business model with profit margins much higher than those of traditional defense contractors, who usually work on cost-plus government deals.
Anduril was founded in 2017 by Silicon Valley veterans, including Oculus VR creator Palmer Luckey and Founders Fund partner Trae Stephens. About a year after starting, the company won its first defense contract: a $12.5 million deal with the U.S. Marine Corps. Since then, it has grown rapidly, with its valuation rising from $8.5 billion in 2022 to $14 billion in August 2024, then more than doubling to $30.5 billion after a $2.5 billion Series G funding round in June 2025. The company also doubled its revenue in 2024 to around $1 billion. Recent contracts include a 10-year, $642.2 million deal with the U.S. Navy for counter-drone systems and a joint program with General Atomics to build up to $9 billion in autonomous aircraft. In February 2025, Anduril took over Microsoft's Integrated Visual Augmentation System program, a $22 billion contract to provide augmented reality headsets to the U.S. Army.
Since its founding, Anduril has raised $6.26 billion from investors like Founders Fund, Sands Capital, Andreessen Horowitz, Fidelity Management and Research Company, and General Catalyst. The Series G round was led by Founders Fund, which invested $1 billion in a single check. As of March 2026, Anduril was reportedly raising another $4 billion round at a $60 billion valuation, led by Andreessen Horowitz and Thrive Capital.
